How We Did It |

This is a newer and better hybrid of Whistler's first webcam that has been running for over 3 years now. To start we build a weather proof housing made from ABS plumbing pipe, insulate it, fasten a Connectix 2 camera, attached a Sony 63 degree wide angle lens as well as a secret custom ground lens from Nikon. Put a black no glare ring around the lens, attach a Linux web server test and more testing and phase one is done. Next we build a strong weather proof tower, install a wireless alarm system (competitors you know). We need a true sine wave 120 volt AC inverter in order to eliminate interference with video and electronic equipment. Solar cells provides 20 volts DC to the Panasonic dry lead acid batteries The 12 volts from the batteries is converted to120 AC to power the web cam, web server and microwave system. The images are beamed about 3 miles to the WhistlerWEB office, located on the slopes of Whistler Creek, to a another microwave link in my living room,( I have a nice glow about me now) to a hub, then a NT box. The Linux PPM image format is converted to a JPEG using a batch file and stored in a folder controlled by IIS. A Java applet controls the refresh rate of the clients browser. This is phase 2 Now we need a cool location on top of a mountain that over looks Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. This happens to be Sproat mountain. We then apply to the government to use the land, build a helipad for safe landings and off loading crews and supplies. Survey the location, pour the footings and over $100,000.00 later you have the most high tech elaborate web cam in the world with a birds eye view of the best ski resort in the world: Whistler Blackcomb . "Colorado ISP's chew on this one" :-) Now you might think this is a little bit to much rivalry but the reasons for doing this are as follows;
